Swiss Government Launches New Project ACT for the Support of CSOs in Serbia

The Swiss Government, through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), allocates CHF 5.3 million for the implementation of the programme “For an Active Civil Society Together – ACT“. In the next four years, around 100 civil society organisations will receive support for building relations with their constituency, for increasing civil activism, for improving their cooperation with local self-governments in order to enhance public services, for increasing networking and more efficient operation of the civil society organisations.

The goal of project ACT is an active civil society in which citizens participate more in the decision-making processes, especially at the local level.

ACT will support CSOs through three components, with a special focus on organisations outside Belgrade. The support is foresees through different grant schemes and capacity building, with a focus on:

  1. Building and strengthening connections between CSOs and the citizens, strengthening CSO capacities for public advocacy and better identifying the citizens’ needs, as well as building capacities of CSOs for providing services to the local community;
  2. Exchange of knowledge and experiences among CSOs, establishing cooperation through different CSO network with the aim of increasing their influence in the decision-making process for the benefit of the citizens;  
  3. Cooperation between CSOs and local self-governments with the aim of offering better services to the citizens.

During next year, ACT will organise info sessions throughout Serbia, providing more details about future activities and the grant-giving programme.
