Visit to grantees in Bor and Knjaževac
04/11/2022In the city hall in Bor, on Wednesday, a meeting was held on the occasion of the completed project “Together for Bor without smoke”, representatives of civil society organizations, local self-government, SDC and the ACT project were present on that occasion. “As part of the Together for Smoke-free Bor project, which was implemented in Bor, citizens are regularly informed about air quality and educated about ways to protect themselves in certain situations.
Recommendations for the air quality plan, which is in the process of being drawn up and whose adoption is expected in the coming period, have also been drawn up,” said Biljana Đusić Radmilović from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The goal of this project, says Toplica Marjanović from the Association of Young Researchers, project coordinator, was to strengthen cooperation between the local self-government and all entities dealing with environmental protection in order to involve the public in decision-making processes, to be informed and to raise environmental awareness.
“Further activities are aimed at expanding the activities of the working body for air quality monitoring, which will also deal with water quality monitoring, waste management and protection of preserved natural values in the territory of the city of Bor.” The local self-government, as well as the organizations “Alternativa Bor” and “Dom omladine Bor” made an exceptional contribution to this entire project, Marjanović points out. The project has really important results, among which it is important to point out that the monitoring team, within which all analyzes and assessments of air quality were performed, grew into a permanent working body that was adopted by the City Council of the city of Bor. The city of Bor recognized the need and set aside budget funds for the development of the local network of measuring stations and all action plans”, said Bor city council member Srećko Zdravković.
The next day in Knjaževac, representatives of SDC and ACT visited the Center of Local Democracy of LDA Knjaževac, which, as part of the supported project, advocated for the opening of the Youth Center in Knaževac with local decision makers. On that occasion, we visited two locations where the Center will be opened in the coming period.
