The Zajecar Initiative is an association of citizens founded in 2001. It was founded mostly by young people who wanted to contribute to the changes in society that began to happen at that time. Over the past decade and a half, the Zajecar Initiative has grown from a local group of activists to an organization with clearly defined programs, developed work procedures and policies, and professional staff.
In 2010, the Zajecar Initiative launched the Zajecar Youth Center, for which it received the Mladgrad Award. The initiative also founded the first Iskorak Community Development Foundation in 2013. Today, the Zajecar Initiative is the largest grant-making organization operating locally in the country with over $ 300,000 invested in more than 180 projects in the Timok region through grant programs.
